It was -12(F) here yesterday when we got up to tend to the creatures and start the coffee (plow the driveway, load the wood stove and sweep off the paths, etc.). The heating system could not catch up all day and the house stayed nippy. It was a perfect day to hunker down by the wood stove and knit.
It has taken me years to be able to read and knit in the middle of the day and not feel guilty about it.
I enjoy the slow progress of observing a repetitive motion turning a strand of yarn into a soft, uniform surface of loops. I have to focus a little, but the work doesn't take all of my attention. There is still enough room left to think about other things, and my thoughts seem to flow in a positive direction. Complicated patterns that require counting each stitch and row can be relaxing too, but it is a different kind of focus. These days I seem to want the casual focus and don't have anything complicated in the works.
. . . . . . . . .
When the day was done we watched the 20 year old movie, "Cast Away" with Tom Hanks. It is still a very good movie, and it was perversely enjoyable to see how unpleasant living in the South Pacific could be. I wonder what the story would have been like if he was in this cold climate instead. Well, there is this story of the last true hermit in Maine. (Thanks, Penny.)
For real knitting inspiration, you might want to check out Kate Davies blog; it is one of my favorites.
Ommmmmm
